Using the Map LinksClicking a Link entry in the Map Link column should open another window showing the hike route on a Google Maps page. Make sure that your browser(IE, Firefox, etc) allows pop-up windows for at least this site. With Google Maps you can zoom into location along the route and then pan along the trail. For more details see the Maps Help page.Using the Map Data filesClicking a Data entry in the Map Data column will download the coordinate data for the hike route. The map data are kmz files (compressed kml). These can be imported into various mapping programs including the free Google Earth.Using the street viewsFor an increasing number of streets and highways, Google Maps includes continuous photographs taken at car level. If available these can show parking or trail access points. Sometimes another hike will have the street view at the other end of the hike. |
